Golden Gears Donation to TAMI

March 20, 2017

The Iroquois-Matilda Lions Club held a St. Pattys Day Party on March 11, 2017 at the Matilda Hall.

This was well-attended by over 200 people, who were entertained by the Kitchen Party, a Celtic band.

There were many items up for the Silent and Live Auctions.

The Golden Gears donated an all-expense BBQ for up to 40 persons as an auction item.

This proved so popular that we offered a second BBQ to the next-highest bidder.

In the end, these 2 items added over $2000 to be donated to TAMI (Talking About Mental Illness).

Cheque presentation to Fort McMurray Firefighters

December 9, 2016

Almost $300 was raised from the sale of Iroquois History books over the past few months.

The Golden Gears Club decided to top this amount up to $500 and we will send these funds out the Fort McMurray Firefighters.

Thanks to Jeff Beaupre for organizing and running this effort!

A photo of this presentation is in our slide show section.

Golden Gears Donations

October 17, 2016

It might not feel like Christmas yet, but the Golden Gears have kicked off the season early with donations to several local charities.

At their October 11 meeting, the club approved donations of $250 each to the Dundas County Food Bank and The South Dundas Christmas Exchange.

Another donation of the same value was made to the For for All Food Bank in Cardinal.

The funds represent the proceeds from the 50/50 draw held at the club\\\'s car show and concert on August 28th.

Club President Henry Swank presents the cheques to Carol Richer [left] of the Christmas Exchange and Amy Jamieson of the Morrisburg branch of the Dundas County Food Bank.

I have added the photo to the Slide Show section

Brinston Park Revitalization - Oct 1

October 2, 2016

As part of the Brinston Park Revitalization celebration, the Committee invited the Golden Gears to put on a display of vehicles.

There was also a display of tractors and various activities for the kids. The Iroquois Firefighters also had their trucks on display.

For food, they had a Pig Roast (on a spit)!

Golden Gears members brought in 15 vehicles for an impressive line-up. A non-member late-comer showed up with a 1941 Hudson survivor car!

We also got to see a Viper up close!

Despite the cloudy day, everyone enjoyed one last opportunity to show off their cars.

This show was combined with the Cruise in for Cancer, which had been cancelled earlier in the season.

The show was well attended with approx. 120 vehicles taking part.

The Golden Gears alone had 21 vehicles and 26 members in attendance.

4 of them were draw winners and 3 members took home trophies:

Claude Lavoie for his Durant, Morris Stark for his Pontiac and Leon Lapensee for his M-G.

The Golden Gears also presented a cheque to the Cancer Society and I have a photo of the presentation in the Slide Show section.

Cardinal Labour Day Parade - Sunday, Sept 4.

September 5, 2016

It was a beautiful day for a parade!

We had 10 members and cars turn out for the event. We marshaled up at Dishaw St. for the parade at 11:00AM.

The parade started at Noon and wound through the streets of Cardinal with lots of candy being thrown out to the kids!

Afterwards we gathered for a car display at the Legion Park.

This time I have pics of the marshaling area, the Parade itself (courtesy of daughter Sarah) and some of the show at the park.

Car Show with Eddy & The Stingrays - August 28, 2016

August 30, 2016

The morning started off badly - it poured rain and we all got soaked!

Thankfully, by 08:45 the rain stopped and the sun made an appearance and lasted all day!

The weather no doubt contributed to our lower numbers, but we did have 165 vehicles register with about 40 more who arrived late and did not register.

MP Guy Lauzon and SD Deputy Mayor Jim Locke greeted everyone but kept it short!

There were lots of door prizes available and the 50/50 was won by Wally Fisher.

About 20 trophies were awarded including 2 People\\\\\\\'s Choice this year.

Hwy 43 Car Club Show at Winchester BMR, August 7

August 8, 2016

Sunday was a beautiful day for a car show and 14 Golden Gears members took advantage of this and convoyed up 31 to Winchester.

The Hwy 43 Club and the BMR people did a great job setting up the site with music and various booths.

We had 10 vehicles in total which was a good number out of the 80 or so total cars at the show.

There was a BBQ going and there were door prizes and a 50/50 draw.

An enjoyable day chatting and mingling.

A few pics in the Slide Show section.

Cruise Night - August 4

August 5, 2016

It was a steamy hot night, but we still had 28 vehicles show up for display.

Thanks to the Highway 43 Club for coming down and bringing some real beauties!

As usual, the Leos were there with their BBQ doing a brisk business selling hot dogs and hamburgers.

Lots of door prizes were handed out and the 50/50 prize went out-of-town (again)!

The Golden Gears had 12 members and 5 cars at the event.

Once again, thanks to Chick and grandson Rory for handing out flyers at the entrance. Saved a lot of walking!!

Fill the Rat Rod, Saturday, July 30

August 2, 2016

Another Golden Gears successful event!

We filled Garys Rat Rod pickup with food items AND collected almost $700 in donations for the Food Bank.

6 members were on hand with 3 cars on display to the public. Special thanks to Chicks grandson Rory, who helped load the truck.

Golden Gears Club BBQ July 24

July 24, 2016

The weather was perfect for our club BBQ and about 35 members came out to enjoy the afternoon.

A couple of hours were spent chatting and catching up on events before the food was brought out.

Our hosts, Dale and Lelah Cook did a fantastic job and we all had our fill of some delicious food.

Some pics in the Slide Show section.

Iroquois Airport Fly-in Breakfast (50th Anniversary) July 17, 2016

July 17, 2016

Sunday morning was beautiful and the Golden Gears were there bright and early setting up for the show.

Planes were already arriving at 7:00AM for the Pilots breakfast.

We set up our tents and settled in to enjoy the day.

The Golden Gears made a presentation to George Jackson and John Ross who started the airfield way back when.

We also heard from Mayor Evonne Delegarde and MP Guy Lauzon.

We ended up with 32 vehicles on site from as far away as New York State and Ottawa.

Check the Slide Show section for some pics of the day.

Morrisburg Antiquefest July 16,2016

July 17, 2016

The Morrisburg Antiquefest hosted a number of antique dealers with a wide variety of items for sale.

There was also a refreshment tent with a brewery and a winery offering samples of their products.

Of course, the Golden Gears were also there with about 15 cars on display.

We generated quite a bit of interest as there was a steady stream of visitors checking out the vehicles.

A few pics in the Slide Show section.

Morrisburg Cruise-in for Cancer (July 9)

July 12, 2016

Unfortunately, due to bad weather this event was cancelled.

Plans are to combine this event with the Docksyde Final Cruise-in on Labour Day in September.

Canada Day Car Show

July 3, 2016

Despite the threat of rain, we had 108 cars register for the show.

Lots of new entries for the show.

Instead of the normal judging, it was all Peoples Choice and we gave out 20 trophies.

Our 50/50 winner was Morgan Weber who received a cheque for $271.

Most cars had left the Point by the time the rains came!

We also have some drone shots courtesy of John Gleed of in Part 2.

Check the Slide Show link for all the pics of the show.

A Busy Week in Iroquois

June 22, 2016

Wow! Lots of activity between June 16 and 18.

Our first cruise-in of the year was a great success. (June 2 was cancelled due to rain)

We had 31 cars on display with a strong contingent from the 43 car club.

Then on the 17th, the Golden Gears gave a tour of Iroquois for the Firefighters wives. We had 22 cars for transportation.

The firefighters had set up stops at points of interest along the way and the ladies enjoyed wine and cheese at the end.

On the 18th, the games began in earnest in the heat and the Iroquois team came out on top.

The Golden Gears set up an information tent near the site and it was well received.

Check the Slide Show section for some photos of the 3 days activities.
